STAR MTP–CS High-Density Fiber Modules

When Every Rack Unit Counts, Every Connector Matters.

Pre-terminated MTP-to-CS fiber modules for space-efficient optical distribution, with compact CS® connectivity, accessible patching and defined insertion-loss grades. The architecture creates a practical transition between backbone trunk cabling and equipment-side patching within the STAR fiber management platform.

Connection Architecture

The module provides 2 rear MTP® adapter interfaces and 8 front duplex CS® ports, supporting 16 fibers in a pre-terminated STAR module. The front interface supports dense patching while rear MTP® connections simplify trunk-side cable management.

CS® duplex connectivity provides a smaller front-panel footprint than conventional LC duplex connectors. STAR ODF integration enables modular installation and maintenance with front and rear access.

  • Compact CS® Interface: The smaller duplex connector format supports higher front-panel connection density than conventional LC layouts.
  • Pre-Terminated Cabling: Rear MTP® interfaces connect to pre-terminated trunks, reducing field termination work.
  • Front & Rear Access: Modules can be loaded or removed from either side, with rear access for cable handling.
  • STAR ODF Integration: Suitable for STAR ODF series as described in the product datasheet.

Data Centers: High-port-count patching where distribution space is constrained and service access remains important.

Storage Networks: Structured optical connections for SAN infrastructure and planned equipment interconnections.

Communications Rooms: Modular fiber distribution and accessible trunk-to-patch transitions.

One pre-terminated module provides a compact interface between rear trunk cabling and front duplex patching.

Practical design features for high-density fiber patching and STAR optical distribution frames.

Compact CS® Interface

The smaller duplex connector format supports higher front-panel connection density than conventional LC layouts. This is particularly relevant when port counts increase without additional rack space.

Pre-Terminated Cabling

Rear MTP® interfaces connect to pre-terminated trunks, reducing field termination work at the module and supporting planned cable routing.

Front & Rear Access

Modules can be loaded or removed from either side, with rear access for cable handling during installation and subsequent service.

STAR ODF Integration

The product datasheet identifies the modules as suitable for the STAR ODF series, allowing the cassette to be specified as part of a wider fiber management layout.

Module and coupling insertion-loss limits from Fibernet Rev. 2.0 (May 2020). Compare module and connector coupling values separately when assessing the optical link-loss budget.

Per-Fiber IL & RL Testing

Insertion Loss and Return Loss are tested for each fiber, according to the datasheet.

Ferrule Geometry

Connector ferrule geometry is checked using interferometer measurement.

Fibernet operates according to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485:2016, and AS9100D quality management standards. These refer to the company's quality systems, not a separate certification of this module.

It uses a compact CS® duplex front interface rather than LC duplex, with pre-terminated MTP® connections at the rear. Compare available panel space, connector format and the full link design before choosing.

Calculate the end-to-end optical link-loss budget, including transceivers, trunks, patch cords and other mated connections. Then compare the allowable module insertion loss with the variant table above.

The datasheet references CS breakout applications. Actual compatibility depends on the transceiver interface, fiber mapping, polarity, connector configuration and link budget; validate the specific optical architecture.

Confirm polarity, pinning, connector gender, polish type and the required fiber mapping. The May 2020 ordering information contains polish-designation inconsistencies, so the final part number should be verified.

The datasheet describes compatibility with the STAR ODF series. Confirm the exact frame and mounting configuration before ordering.

The May 2020 datasheet describes 200/400 Gb/s applications and mentions future 800 Gb/s use. That statement is not a blanket 800G qualification; verify the transceiver architecture, channel loss and current product specification.
