1U 19″ Optical Splitter Modules

1U 19" Optical Splitter Modules

A modular platform for organizing passive optical splitter components in a defined rack-mount layout.

THE ENGINEERING CONSIDERATION

Match the optical function to the available rack space.

Optical distribution projects need predictable placement for passive splitting while accommodating distinct fiber types and coupling requirements.

THE CHALLENGE

Different links. Different optical requirements.

A single fixed splitter configuration may not suit every link. Fiber type, operating wavelength, connection interface and distribution ratio all affect the component selection.

  • Plan the number and type of optical paths
  • Define the relevant transmission wavelengths
  • Keep a clear rack-level component layout
THE FIBERNET APPROACH

A modular chassis with selectable functions.

A common 1U rack format accepts purpose-selected optical splitter modules, making the physical distribution arrangement easier to specify and document.

  • Define optical distribution at the module level
  • Keep chassis selection separate from optical parameters
  • Document the required configuration before purchasing
SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

One optical input. A defined distribution path.

The rack is the physical platform; each installed module defines an optical function. Splitter topology and power distribution are separate parameters.

CONFIGURATION DECISIONS

Specify the module around the link.

Three inputs define most of the technical selection process. They are kept separate from the measured component characteristics below.

Splitting architecture

Choose the required optical topology. For two-way couplers, confirm the power-split ratio against the channel-loss reference and module design.

Topology ≠ coupling ratio

Optical fiber & wavelength

Choose from the documented single-mode or multimode families and specify the intended wavelength band before matching optical performance.

SM & MM options documented

Connector interface

The module ordering guide lists LC/UPC and LC/APC connector options. Match connector polish to the link specification.

THE MODULE FORM FACTOR

Optical components in a defined rack-mount format.

The same mechanical module format may also accommodate WDM components or optical combiners, as noted in the datasheet. This is a platform design option, not a claim that every such function is supplied as a standard stock module.

  • Individual modules are identified separately from the chassis.
  • Blank panels have their own part number for unpopulated positions.
  • Confirm mechanical and optical compatibility for non-splitter modules.
ENGINEERING REFERENCE

Technical specifications

The published data below comes from the Fibernet Rev. 1.0 datasheet (March 2019). Coupler ratio values are presented separately to avoid mixing optical characteristics with module capacity.

Module & coupler parameters

1U chassis 19-inch, up to 30 modules
Splitter module 1×2 or 1×4
Single-mode wavelengths 1310, 1490, 1550, 1625 nm
Multimode wavelengths 850, 1300 nm
Specified bandwidth ±40 nm
Fiber types SM: G.652, G.657A; MM: OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4
Operating temperature −20°C to +85°C
Storage temperature −40°C to +85°C
Insertion loss 3.1–25 dB; structure-dependent
Return loss ≥55 dB
Polarization-dependent loss (PDL) ≤0.3 dB
Compliance stated RoHS
The optical values are quoted as provided by the source datasheet; they are not universal guarantees for every 1×2 or 1×4 configuration.

Coupling-ratio reference

Ratio Premium SM (dB) Premium MM (dB)
50/50 3.4 / 3.4 3.9 / 3.9
40/60 4.4 / 2.5 4.9 / 3.0
30/70 5.6 / 1.8 6.2 / 2.3
20/80 7.4 / 1.1 8.0 / 1.6
10/90 10.8 / 0.6 11.3 / 1.1
5/95 14.0 / 0.4 14.9 / 0.9
1/99 21.0 / 0.13 22.1 / 0.7
Each pair reproduces the two values listed for that ratio in the original coupler table. Confirm the relevant channel specification and module architecture before ordering.

Technical distinction: A module’s 1×2 or 1×4 design describes its optical topology. The 50/50 through 1/99 values above describe coupler power distribution. They should not be treated as interchangeable specifications.

ORDERING STRUCTURE

Specify the chassis, modules and fillers separately.

These are the product identifiers documented in the datasheet. The exact module code suffix and supplied quantities should be confirmed with Fibernet.
