Non-Standard Fibers Require Non-Standard Processing
Specialty optical fibers cannot always be processed using conventional fiber manufacturing methods.
Variations in core, cladding, coating material, fiber diameter and optical characteristics can affect every stage of the process, including cutting, coating removal, splicing, tapering and integration.
In some applications, different fiber diameters or media must also be interconnected, requiring controlled transition between fiber types.
The challenge is therefore not simply selecting a specialty fiber.
It is developing a precise and repeatable process that preserves the required optical and mechanical characteristics of the fiber throughout the assembly.
