MTP ADAPTERS MODULES

An MTP® adapter module is a pass-through cassette holding MTP® adapters (couplers): trunk connectors plug in from the rear, harness or patch cord connectors from the front, and the adapter aligns them precisely. It turns raw trunk ends into managed, documented, serviceable connection points inside the ODF.

It depends on what the front side connects to. Use the MTP®-LC module when equipment takes duplex LC (10G/25G ports). Use the conversion module when migrating Base-12 trunks to Base-8 40G/100G ports with full fiber utilization. Use the adapter module when both sides are native MTP® – trunk-to-harness or trunk-to-trunk cross-connects.

Six adapters give maximum density per tray position. Four adapters leave more spacing between connections, which some teams prefer for easier handling of high-count trunks and labels. Optically both are identical – the choice is density versus working room.

Every MTP® mating requires exactly one male connector (with guiding pins) and one female connector (without pins) – the pins seat into the opposite ferrule to align all fibers precisely. The adapter module supports this scheme with high-precision alignment, so planning simply requires that trunks and harnesses arrive with opposite genders at each adapter.

By adapter color, at a glance: black/green adapters are single-mode, aqua adapters are OM3/OM4 multimode, and lime green adapters are OM5. In a frame mixing generations and fiber types, the color coding prevents mis-patching before it happens.

Yes – that is a core purpose of the adapter module architecture. The backbone trunk terminates once at the adapter and stays untouched; migrating to 40G or 100G means changing the electronics and the cords in front of the module, while the same trunk cable keeps carrying the traffic.

Integrated shutters block the optical path when no connector is inserted, providing maximum protection of eyes from lasers during installation, and keeping dust away from the precision sleeves that guarantee the module’s low insertion and return loss.

All of them. The module shares the standard STAR form factor and slides into the STAR 1U, STAR 1U-FX, STAR 2U and STAR 4U – in any tray position, alongside MTP®-LC, conversion, TAP and fusion splice modules.
